Demand is expected to improve across Berries this week, with school holidays ending in every state.

Blueberries – After a week of cooler overnight and day temperatures, we expect some warmer conditions at the end of the week. This has held up some production out of the Coffs Coast region and I expect this to improve in the coming week. Blueberries were the only berries in the category that saw a decline week on week.

Far North QLD – The weather in FNQ continues to look good for at least the next week. The quality of fruit from the region continues to be of a high standard due to favourable weather conditions, and we expect more over the next few weeks

WA – Volume and fruit quality in WA continue to be good with the commencing of the Eureka program. The WA season for Eureka should run from July to Jan this year. Standard volumes in the state have increased and we expect this to continue over the next few weeks out of gin gin.

Strawberries – While there were some week-on-week volume increases, the market is falling well behind last year. With cooler weather, we expect this trend to continue in the short term. Fruit quality across the board has been relatively good, but there is a real lack of volume and we don’t see this improving this week.

Raspberries – Raspberry volumes have grown week on week with the long cane production keeping the volume coming. We expect this volume to continue over the next few weeks.

Blackberries – Production has seen a jump weekly, but this is off a small base. We are not expecting to see significant market changes in Blackberries in the short term.
